Description
Friedrich Schiller’s ode written – according to a theory to celebrate freedom – in 1785 is best known for its musical setting by Beethoven in the final movement of his Ninth Symphony.

We build the musical box (a hand-powered instrument, capable of playing a short tune) in a wooden case decorated with motifs cut out with a fretsaw.
Due to the technical characteristics of the instrument, a slight metal noise is heard as it plays (metal comb teeth are plucked by metal pins while rotating the cylinder with the ratchet lever, which inevitably produces some noise). Unlike digital instruments, a mechanical musical box can never offer a clear, noise-free audio experience.
