Mendelssohn composed A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture at the age of 17, and he wrote the incidental music for Shakespeareíí1s play 15 years later. The suite with its famous Wedding March theme has stayed popular ever since its first production in 1843.

We build the musical box (a hand-powered instrument, capable of playing a short tune) in a wooden case decorated with motifs cut out with a fretsaw.
Due to the technical characteristics of the instrument, a slight metal noise is heard as it plays (metal comb teeth are plucked by metal pins while rotating the cylinder with the ratchet lever, which inevitably produces some noise). Unlike digital instruments, a mechanical musical box can never offer a clear, noise-free audio experience.
